We are committed to helping students near the end of their degrees, and recent graduates, make the transition from university to the working world. As part of our recruitment process we run a graduate programme each year in which we provide a short-term contract to selected applicants to gain experience at Intellidex. There is no guarantee of a longer-term position beyond the internship, but we have historically recruited from our interns. We offer both paid and unpaid internships at locations including Sandton, London and Boston. We may make several or no appointments in any year, depending on the applications we receive and business needs at the time.

Intellidex offers a high-calbre environment, working alongside PhDs, MBAs and CFA charterholders.

We look to place interns in the following positions, either either a three-month or six-month contract. These internships are for recent graduates who are taking their first steps in their career. A modest monthly stipend is paid. In your application please indicate when you are available.

  • Financial markets & economics, working on macroeconomic analysis, equities analysis, fixed income analysis. The intern will assist with financial markets research using software like Stata and Excel and accessing financial databases like Iress, Bloomberg and Infront, while gaining experience in working on client reports and understanding key institutions in the South African financial markets. Such applicants would be recent graduates in economics, statistics or finance.
  • Financial journalism, working on producing content and interviewing subjects. Intellidex produces several publications based on its research usually in partnership with major media titles. Such applicants would be recent graduates with degrees in journalism and media studies, or a finance-related degree.
  • Social science, working on survey research and data analysis connected to market research projects. Intellidex undertakes a wide range of market research usually connected to financial services. We provide exposure to several key areas of the financial services industry and hands on experience in gathering data and survey input. Applicants would be recent graduates with degrees in sociology, politics, psychology, marketing, economics or similar subjects that require advanced primary research skills.

Deadline for applications: We usually consider applications in early November of each year, for work from January, but will consider applicants at other times of the year, depending on business needs at the time. Shortlisted applicants will be interviewed.

Guidance for applicants: We are interested in original and creative thinkers who are problem solvers. Your application should consist of a covering letter in which you demonstrate your ability and willingness to solve problems in undertaking research, which can often be complex and involve creative solutions to access the information needed. You should also provide a CV, as well as three writing samples of which two must be academic writing that demonstrates your ability to do primary research.

For Sandton placements, applicants must be entitled to work legally in SA. For placements in London or Boston, applicants must be legally entitled to work in those cities.
